About Dr. Zhou

Dr. Meng Zhou has over 10 years piano teaching experience. She received her Doctor of Music Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from Eastman School of Music studying with Professor Douglas Humpherys. Dr. Zhou held multiple teaching assistantships in piano and theory at Eastman, and won the Teaching Assistant Prize for Excellence in Piano Teaching. Dr. Zhou has taught at Eastman Community Music School, St. Peter’s Community Arts Academy in Geneva, and Parkminster Music School. In 2019, she delivered an invited talk on piano practice methods at the NYSMTA Mini-Pedagogy Symposium at Nazareth College. She is a member of the College Music Society, and the Rochester Piano Teachers’ Guild. Dr. Zhou is currently teaching piano privately and as adjunct professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Dr. Zhou has performed and participated in many music festivals and competitions including the Banff Centre Summer Music Program, Piano Texas International Academy & Festival, Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York City, and the Moscow International Frederick Chopin Competition for Young Pianists. After winning first prize at the Lima Symphony Orchestra Artist Competition, Dr. Zhou was invited to be the soloist in concert featuring Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Lima Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Zhou is also enthusiastic about piano collaboration. She worked with Eastman Professor Kurau at the French Horn Institution of Summer @ Eastman as the piano accompanist for masterclasses and recitals. Dr. Zhou has served as pianist and organist at churches and choir groups including Community Christian Church and Concentus Women’s Chorus. She is currently collaborating with other local artists.

Dr. Zhou lives with her husband Dr. Morris and their child in West Irondequoit in Rochester, NY.
